i can’t believe i haven’t written any post-marathong updates. my fan must be dying in anticipation!
the race went amazingly well. tracy & i were side-by-side the entire time and, aside for stopping at the hydration stations, we didn’t take a single walking break. i will admit: after nine or ten miles, i was definitely feeling a bit of a burn in my feet, but surprisingly, not in my shins—i’m very prone to shinsplints—or my calves. but having all those people running around me, plus a friend running with me, was definitely a huge motivator, and i powered through. i can’t even describe how i felt when i ran up the wooden platform that led to the coney island boardwalk, the final stretch of the race. when you can finally see the finish line, it’s a strange feeling. on the one hand, it seems like forever until you reach the end, and you just want it to be over. on the other hand, all these people cheering you on is so rewarding, you just want to keep basking in it.
but end, it did. tracy and i managed to finish in exactly the same time, according to the official site: 2:07:01 (i gotta say: not bad for my first 1/2 marathong…and the farthest i’ve ever run, both outdoors or on a treadmill.)

the rest of the day was spent as it should be: lounging on the beach, snacking & sipping mimosas in the morning (don’t judge! we earned it!), moving on to beer & sausages in the early afternoon, then risking our lives on the 80-plus-year-old cyclone.
how was your weekend?
